The western part of the Mounth is really a plateau which is incised by, on the south side, the glens of Angus: from west to east Glen Isla, Glen Prosen, Glen Clova and Glen Esk. On Deeside there are Glen Callater, Glen Muick and Glen Tanar. By far the highest point is the summit of Lochnagar, which rightly belongs with the Cairngorms but was cut off by the glacier which formed the Deeside valley. There are many other interesting hills, from Glas Maol above Glen Clunie at the west end to Mount Keen, the most easterly of the Munros. |
